Loop around the Weiselberg
The start and finish of the circular hiking trail is the parking lot at Weiselbergbad in Oberkirchen. The first highlight is there after just a few minutes: The Iron Bridge, from which the hiker has a fantastic view over Oberkirchen into the Ostertal. A little later, through the light Werter Wald along the former Grügelborn train station, civilization is over, because the hiker dives into the primeval forest-like Owl Valley, a narrow, natural indented valley through which the Leichweilerbach with its huge stone blocks flows. Bizarre rock walls, a waterfall and the streambed convey a jungle-like scenery in the coolness of the forest
Another highlight is the natural monument, the stone cabinet, an imposing rock form made of Weiselbergite. Passing the Weiselner Born fountain, you can use the water treading facility to freshen up heated arms and feet. The next highlight is not long in coming with this hiking drama. The 272m long and 39m high valley bridge of Oberkirchen is the second highest stone bridge in Germany.
Here, too, the view over Oberkirchen and the Weiselberg summit is at its best. If desired, the "TUNNEL LOOP" can be attached from here, a 2.5 km long stretch with a 216 m long illuminated railway tunnel and the Marien's "wayside shrine". The almost alphine ascent to the Weiselberg summit begins from the valley bridge, the icing on the cake of the extraordinarily light hiking tour. For the stamina we will be rewarded with an unforgettable panoramic view of the surroundings of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park. The summiteers can register here in a summit book. The way back then leads steeply downhill through the Steinerne Meer, a collection of huge mossy stone blocks. Past a witch's house and under a witch hanging between the trees, it then goes along the foot of the Weiselberg and over a barefoot path back to the starting point.
