... a 62 km long quality hiking trail in the heart of the Palatinate Uplands, which is very suitable as a one-day or multi-day tour.
The Veldenzwanderweg bears its name in reference to the noble family of Veldenz, who built and lived in Lichtenberg Castle near Thallichtenberg around 1220. The route runs through Thallichtenberg - Ruthweiler - Diedelkopf - Blaubach - Mayweilerhof - Rammelsbach -Patersbach - Erdesbach - Ulmet - Rathsweiler - Niederalben - St. Julian - Glanbrücken - Nerzweiler. These villages once belonged to the County of Veldenz.
The path runs through valleys and heights and impresses with its varied landscape, natural silence, natural paths and great views. It also experiences its uniqueness through the nature reserves Wartekopf and Mittagsfels in the area of Rathsweiler, Ulmet and Niederalben. It is accessible all year round (except for Mittagsfels) with hiking equipment. In Aschbach, after 34.9 km, it connects to the "Pfälzer Höhenweg" hiking trail. Cultural sights such as Lichtenberg Castle are right on the way. Selected restaurants on the “Culinary Landstrasse” as well as other quaint stop-off points and places to stay overnight are located along the entire route.
