Excursion tips in Bad Sobernheim
The ruins of the Disibodenberg monastery
Where the Nahe and Glan flow together, the Disibodenberg rises up and offers a wide view of the Nahe valley. Centuries-old stone remains rest on its heights. They bear witness to a life behind cool monastery walls, the origin of which goes back to Disibodus, who built the first settlement in this symbolic place around 640. Today a three-trunk oak rises up in the middle of the ruins of the abbey church as a symbol of the Trinity.
Nature and history have entered into a unique connection here and have created a completely mystical place. Between the remains of the wall and old grave slabs, you walk in the footsteps of the most famous woman of the Middle Ages: Hildegard von Bingen (1106 - 1151) spent most of her life in the Benedictine monastery on Disibodenberg.
Here she recorded her visions in the famous Scivias script and developed her world-famous naturopathy, which is still used today. More at disibodenberg
Experience what it really was like in the Rhineland-Palatinate open-air museum
Hidden in the nightingale valley, the past is well preserved. Idyllically situated between forest and meadows, there is a unique collection of historical witnesses made of stone, wood and clay: on a 35 hectare, spacious area, crossed by cobblestone paths, one encounters almost 40 historical buildings from the regions of Rhineland-Palatinate, which were removed stone by stone from their original locations and rebuilt and furnished in the museum true to the original. In the village forge and the watermill, in the grocer's shop and at the bowling alley, in winegrowers' houses, farms and in the bakery, you can experience how people have lived over the past 500 years, how they coped with everyday life and work and how their lives were affected by the changing seasons was coined.
Here you will find house gardens, pastures and meadows, a medicinal herb garden
and a vineyard. Experience on the various days of action how the museum bread is baked in the old stone oven and how the village blacksmith lets the sparks fly. Participation is part of the program in the museum: washing clothes like 100 years ago or school lessons in the old school, bowling in an old bowling alley - let yourself be transported back in time. A highlight of the museum year is the large museum festival in September, when the streets and houses are filled with colorful life, music and the smell of roast meat over an open fire.
In the assemblies you will encounter fox sheep and goats, free-roaming chickens, geese and ducks. A training apiary provides clear knowledge about the great importance of small insects.
The museum restaurant provides regional specialties for refreshment on the hike through the museum. In the museum shop you can find one or the other original memory of a visit in the past. And for lovers there is a very special offer in the museum: Those who like it very romantic can tie the knot in Hasselbach's Backund Parish Hall and get a civil marriage.
“THE MUSEUM IS DAILY INSPIRATION. BEHIND THE WALLS OF HIS HOUSES LURK ALL THE STORIES LIVED IN IT. WHO WANT TO BE PRESERVED AND DESIGNED. AND ALL THAT RADIATES A CALM IN WHICH YOU CAN REALLY COME TO YOURSELF. "

Barefoot path
Pure experience - you're off your socks!
The Bad Sobernheimer Rundweg is the first barefoot path in Germany. A 3500 m long adventure for young and old.
The "clay pastor" Emanuel Felke recommended walking barefoot to his patients. Like a foot reflex zone massage, walking over grass, clay, sand, stones and bark shavings stimulates the whole organism. The path begins at the clay pounding basin, in this area there are lockers for shoes and towels as well as the foot washing facility. A skill course and various floor materials will take you to Nahefurt. Refreshed, it continues upstream after the transition. On the way, picnic areas invite you to linger and enjoy nature. Like Indianan Jones, you can take the 40 m long suspension bridge to the other bank or simply take the boat and cross the Nahe as a ferryman.
Have fun walking barefoot in Bad Sobernheim!
